This 10-hour Lecce day trip from Bari takes you into the heart of Puglia, combining two of southern Italy’s most captivating destinations in a single, beautifully curated journey. Lecce day trip from Bari – One day tour from Bari to Lecce with en-route stop in Alberobello
The tour will begin with your private driver and local guide collecting you from your hotel in Bari (another custom location in the area can be agreed) with a luxury sedan or minivan.
After 1H drive, going through a beautiful countryside you will reach the first stop of our day trip: Alberobello, a Unesco World Heritage Site. The “zona dei trulli” on the westernmost of the town’s two hills is a dense mass of 1500 beehive-shaped houses, white-tipped as if dusted by snow. These drystone buildings are made from local limestone; none are older than the 14th century.
The itinerary will then continue with your private transportation heading to Lecce, the Florence of the South Italy and the capital of a land called Salento. Bequeathed with a generous stash of baroque buildings by its 17th-century architects, the city has a completeness and homogeneity that other southern Italian metropolises lack.
Together with your private guide, you’ll walk through the old town to discover the wonders of Lecce: the Duomo square with the cathedral, the church of St. Irene, St.Oronzo square and the remains of the Roman amphitheater, the Basilica of Santa Croce (a jewel of Lecce Baroque) and the near Celestine Convent.
Lecce is also a lively, graceful but relaxed university town with some upmarket boutiques and very good Pugliese restaurants. Your guide will be happy to give you some suggestions for shopping of local products and for enjoying a lunch break.
At the end of the day, the tour will conclude with your private driver taking you back to your hotel in Bari (or other desired location).
